Consortium

The PATH consortium brings together universities, research centers, hospitals, technology companies, and patient organizations with complementary expertise in artificial intelligence, clinical oncology, digital health, cybersecurity, data interoperability, and regulatory compliance.

Partners contribute to different aspects of the project, including platform development, AI model training, clinical validation, legal and ethical compliance, and dissemination activities. The consortium includes organizations with strong experience in European research projects, health data infrastructures, and clinical studies, ensuring that PATH solutions are technically robust and clinically relevant. Clinical partners provide access to real patient data and support validation of AI tools in real-world settings, while technology partners develop the platform, AI services, and interoperability mechanisms required for secure data exchange.

“I’m proud to coordinate the PATH project, where, together with the PATH consortium, we are turning Europe’s vast cancer data into real impact for patients and clinicians. By enabling secure data exchange and integrating trustworthy AI directly into everyday clinical workflows, we will equip healthcare professionals with practical, decision-support tools that enhance diagnosis, guide treatment choices, and support long-term patient management. In doing so, we will empower patients with more personalized, data-driven care while contributing to key EU initiatives such as Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan and the European Health Data Space.”

Dr. Caroline Barelle,
European Dynamics, PATH Project Coordinator

“The real challenge in healthcare AI is not building the models. It is getting them to work reliably inside clinical workflows without compromising regulatory compliance. PATH tackles that head-on. Through federated learning, clinicians across institutions can benefit from continuously improving AI tools. As the platform is built for GDPR and EU AI Act compliance from the ground up, this infrastructure will substantially accelerate adoption that is being held back by fragmentation, regulatory uncertainty, and a lack of real-world clinical validation. Ultimately, that means clinicians are equipped with tools they can trust and patients receive care enabled by AI tested across institutions and borders. Ancora Health is proud to be at the heart of it.”

“I am excited to serve as the Technical Leader of the PATH project, a very ambitious initiative towards the integration of AI in the clinical workflows, so as to vastly improve diagnosis accuracy, treatment personalization, long-term patient management, and quality of life for cancer patients. The project will deal with secure and privacy-aware data exchanges for AI model training and use among healthcare professionals and organizations and create an expansible platform. This platform will be employed and assessed by clinicians as a risk-free consulting tool for decision-making in all phases of the clinical workflows in 6 hospitals across Europe. The use of AI tools will be securely logged and the feedback of clinicians and patients will be collected to identify most effective pathways for AI integration in the healthcare. The best practices and lessons learnt for the effective deployment of AI tools in the healthcare, especially for fighting cancer, will pave the way for wider adoption of AI in clinical practice across EU and improved patient outcomes.”
