The PATH Expert Group has officially begun its work, bringing together 30 experts from across Europe who will contribute their knowledge, experience and perspectives throughout the PATH project lifecycle.
The Expert Group will serve as a European co-creation and reflection platform, supporting key PATH activities while fostering dialogue on the responsible and trustworthy use of artificial intelligence in cancer care. By engaging experts with diverse backgrounds and areas of expertise, the group will provide an important external perspective as PATH develops and evaluates its approaches, tools and use cases.
Kick-off meeting marks the start of collaboration
The Expert Group held its first online meeting on 22 September, chaired by SHINE 2Europe. The meeting provided an opportunity for the project team to welcome the participating experts, introduce the PATH project and its ambitions, and begin exploring the group’s role and planned activities.
During the meeting, the PATH Coordinator presented the project’s overall vision and objectives, followed by an initial discussion on how the Expert Group will contribute to PATH throughout its implementation.
Among the first activities in which the experts will be involved are the upcoming Delphi study and the definition and refinement of PATH use cases. The group will also provide opportunities for consultation, co-creation and critical reflection as the project progresses.
Connecting technological innovation with real-world needs
The establishment of the Expert Group reflects PATH’s commitment to developing AI-enabled approaches to cancer care that are grounded not only in technological capabilities, but also in real-world needs, clinical practice and societal expectations.
The diversity of expertise represented within the group will provide valuable perspectives on the opportunities and challenges associated with the use of AI in cancer care. Through ongoing dialogue and collaboration, the Expert Group will contribute to ensuring that the development of PATH solutions remains aligned with principles of responsible and trustworthy AI.
As PATH moves forward, the Expert Group will remain an important forum for exchanging knowledge, challenging assumptions and bringing different perspectives into the project’s development and decision-making processes.
